The Wonder of Community

By Lynn Heatley. On Sunday, we hosted a group of friends at TLH who came together to pray for me and speak words of counsel for the ongoing flow of my life. What a beautiful thing to experience and behold. It never ceases to amaze me what kindness looks like when a group of people, who love well, get together and simply share their hearts.

Healthcare and the Hidden Heroes

By Lynn Heatley. Yesterday, a small group of people met to share their journey of what they are seeing in the realm of healthcare. It was a wonderfully diverse group of people that shared their areas of expertise regarding the health of our Body, Soul and Spirit. Amongst us were nurses, pastors, administrators, educators, advocates, and missionaries. All have a heart to see God bring an increase of excellence in care to the multitudes that are in need and to share the love of God in practical ways. I felt extremely blessed to be a part of such a beautiful group of people and look forward to what God will do as we simply meet together and seek the heart of God for His direction. They are all hidden heroes within a very fragile and changing system.

Stepping Out – Blessed to be a blessing!

By Lynn Heatley. These words came to us as our next place of direction for us at The Lord’s House at the beginning of this year.  In all the ways that 2011 was more a call to solitude and community, now, the encouragement is to step out into the city and see what God is up to.  I love the principle that Henry Blackaby writes about in his book “Experiencing God” …to discover where God is already working and join Him there!  What a great idea!  We know that God is at work in the city of Riverside and we want to be about our Father’s business in blessing what He is already doing and to connect with those who are doing it!  We are beginning to do informal roundtables to gather leaders together and inquire what they see God doing in their areas of expertise.  We are starting with the area of Healthcare as we sense that this is deeply on God’s heart and is also such a felt need for the residents of any city.  We will keep you posted on what we discover as we connect with others.  May the Lord bless you as you join Him in what He is doing in your city! – Lynn

Celebrating One Year Today!

Today, a group of us met and rejoiced and thanked God for being so faithful to us in this past year of starting this journey.  What a joy to see vision beginning to be fulfilled.  Today, I opened up the book of remembrance and recounted the many ways that the Lord has led us over the past 12 years and then bringing the vision forth exactly one year ago today.  The One who gives us dreams is also the one who empowers us to fulfill them.  Thank you Lord for your faithfulness.  Lead and guide us in the days ahead!

Cultivating the Soul

By Gordon MacDonald. Thirty years ago, when real estate in this part of New Hampshire was cheap, my wife, Gail, and I purchased an old farm and called it Peace Ledge. During the 1800s the land’s valuable timber had been clear-cut and transformed into pasture where enormous work-horses could be bred and raised. Then around 1900 the farm went belly-up, was abandoned, and, after seventy years, became a forest again.

What Mayors Want to See Churches Do

Rev. Dr. Wilson Goode. Mayors want the church to be the church.  Often church leaders want to be politicians – emulate what politicians do, give political advice. The second thing mayors want the church to be is a lighthouse in their neighborhoods, not a clubhouse.  They want churches to be concerned for the community, not a drive in from outside.  The church can be a lighthouse.  Many have money, but more important, the mandate and the mission is to be a lighthouse.

Living Out a Grateful Life

By Lynn Heatley. I have been pondering the work of sanctification in our lives (sanctification is a big word that basically means the work/ongoing process of the Holy Spirit in our lives that brings our whole nature into being more and more like Jesus). As I have pondered this, I have thought of how so many seemed to have gotten stuck in this whole life process in their understanding and consequently, in their lives. And the “getting stuck” seems to be centered on two words: Receiving vs Earning.
