by Lynn Heatley Years ago, I attended a Joyce Meyer conference and experienced a new place of inner freedom just by going past the book table. On the book table, there was a little booklet by Joyce and the title of it was: “Do It Afraid”. Who knew that 3 simple words, strung together, would produce a new wave of freedom in the interior of my soul and the exterior of my future actions! What I have now come to understand is that most of us want our life neatly arranged with our path marked very clearly before us before we have courage to take our next step. I have found that this is rarely the case when it comes to our faith journey with God and the resulting outcome of decision making regarding everything that pertains to our lives.
The simple phrase of “Do It Afraid” means that we can take courageous steps forward, into the unknown, and still move forward, even when we are afraid. This seems to be how life operates in my world. And when I move forward, sometimes in much fear and trembling, God has an amazing way of bringing applause from heaven or just simple ways of confirming that I am on the right path.
Recently, I saw something posted that indicated a challenge to move forward into this new year with NO Fear. I like the sound of that saying but honestly, if I waited until I had no fear before I took any steps forward, I would not have moved more than a few inches in my ongoing journey. With that being said, I want to encourage all of you who might get stuck in moving forward because you imagine all the worst things that could happen….don’t let your fears become a hindrance in taking steps forward, you can move forward even though you are afraid. I might also add that God gives us some wonderful daily and practical guidance to show us how to stay on the wise path through His word and through mentors and friends who can warn us of approaching cliffs when we might be blind in seeing them.
So…take heart, God is for you and desires to journey with you and lead you through your fears and into amazing places that you have not even begun to imagine (see 1 Corinthians 2:9). Happy trails and Happy New Year! -Lynn
In fear and trembling my friend! Wonderful post!
Thanks so much Terri, you are always such an encouragement to me. ♡
Probably one of the wisest phrases I’ve ever heard.
Particularly instructive for visionaries that see what could be
not what is.
Perfect timing to read this word. Thank you Lynn for obeying God’s prompting.
Excellent word Lynn. I appreciate these words of wisdom as I move forward this year into the next steps of my journey. Sometimes we don’t realize how fear paralizes us. Thanks for taking the time to share and post.
